Woven Jubilee Blanket Information Sheet - October 2009
The Grand Plan - to weave a blanket approx 60" square
The planning committee have met and decided to weave our jubilee blanket in three pieces. There will be two narrow (15") strips woven on handlooms and a wider (central – 36") strip woven on a floor loom. This will provide different weaving opportunities for guild members whether they are experienced or not. We enjoyed feeling and looking at the hanks of handspun yarn and the majority were deemed suitable for use as warp threads which made the planning easier. We decided to spread the bold yarns between the three looms but to give each loom a base colour – purple and orange/red for the handlooms and green for the floorloom. We agreed that a simple weave structure would work well and decided to weave throughout in a simple 2:2 twill to keep the finished material light and flexible so a simple straight threading draft (1,2,3,4) has been used at 12epi. The centre panel will work outwards in a chevron from the centre thread. The remaining yarn has been divided between the three looms for use as weft and the aim for ppi is 10-12 depending on the weft thickness, a better guide is to maintain the twill at 45 degrees.
All members (including beginners and non-weavers) are welcome to join in the weaving fun on any (or all) of the looms - each loom has co-ordinators to provide information and support.
